about

Every town or city probably has a street called Abbey Street. Well this song was written about a particular Abbey Street in the heart of Dublin. The street is notorius for where homeless people hang out and sleep rough. The song is a three chord trick with a catchy hook but tells a much more sinister story which is hard to ignore on Abbey Street!!

lyrics

From the mouth of the River to the cobbled street.
they huddle up in corners and shuffle on their feet
theyre not quite living and not quite dead
you wonder what the hell is goin on inside their head

It dont look easy it sure aint fair
these visions are disturbing but we dont seem to care
down darkened alleys with piss every where
it costs alot of money to live in such despair on

Abbey street....... On Abbey Street ...... On Abbey Street where's there's gangs on Huddled fear well on Abbey Street and the end is never near!

I've seen grown men argue over stupid things
No energy for fighting and rooting in the bins
They dont seem happy to be where they are
you wouldnt swop places even when things get hard
Keep your head down walking these streets are rough
The Abbeys lights just cant provide enough
A shout a ??? (to be updated)
I can speak their language but im tired of talking tough on ...

Abbey street....... On Abbey Street ...... On Abbey Street where's there's gangs on Huddled fear well on Abbey Street and the end is never near!

Pick up pieces of a shattered life
Pick up needles even out for the night
they sleep under arches and passing trains
I dont know the feeling coasting their veins
The things I see, I cannot change , you can afford it
It feels quite strange
It's easy talking of these boys and girls
Looking out the window of a shadowed little world on

Abbey street....... On Abbey Street ...... On Abbey Street where's there's gangs on Huddled fear well on Abbey Street and the end is never near!
